Dawson Springs Department & Agencies:
City Clerk/Treasurer Janet Dunbar (270)797-2781 FAX (270)797-2221 The City Clerk/Treasurer is involved in the planning,
coordination and maintenance of all financial matters for the City,
serves as Clerk to the City Council, reports to the Mayor and provides
operating and financial reports.
Responsible for maintaining and attesting to official records of
the City, prepares the agenda for all City Council meetings, and keeps
records of all regular and special City Council meetings, maintains
updated codification of ordinances, serves as City’s Personnel Officer
overseeing all City benefits.
Responsible for billing and collecting City property taxes,
business license fees, occupational taxes and insurance premium taxes.
The City Clerk’s Office is also responsible for preparing all
related employee withholding reports. Majority of businesses are required to pay a net
profits license fee. Business Licenses are due by May 10th each
year. Businesses with employees are required to withhold
and pay an occupational license fee of 1 ˝ %.
City Property Taxes are due by December 31. Reservations are required for use of City Park
Pavilion and shelters. Zoning Administrator City Clerk issues business building permits and
mobile home permits.
Hopkins County Joint Planning Commission issues all residential building
permits (270)825-4457. Police Chief Bill Crider (270)797-2277 FAX (270)797-2978
Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the
activities of the Police Department in the enforcement of laws and
ordinances, the prevention of crime, and the protection of life and
property, directs the preparation and maintenance of police records and
files. Directs the
investigation of major criminal offenses.
Sees that reports are prepared for the Mayor, prepares budget
estimates, controls the expenditures of Department funds and recommends
the purchase of necessary equipment.
The Dawson Springs Police Department responds to
emergency calls of all types and enforces laws and local ordinances.
In addition to 4 officers, the Department has a full-time
telecommunications staff that dispatches all emergency services for the
City.
Fire Chief Robert Linton (270)797-2510 FAX (270)797-2978 Directs 25 member volunteer Fire Department.
Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief are part-time paid employees
of the City. The Fire
Department and Emergency Rescue Squad provides Fire Prevention
Education, protection of lives and property from fire, general aid and
public service, medical first and, vehicle extrication and rescue Fireworks Displays are prohibited unless approved by
the State Fire Marshall’s Office. Limited outdoor burning within the city limits.
Public Works Superintendent. Bo Hester (270)797-2781 FAX (270)797-2221 Organizes and directs the maintenance and repair of
city streets, refuse collection and related public works activities.
Supervises street laborers and equipment operators, operates
compactor and related public works equipment.
Determines and recommends the priority of streets and alleys to
be maintained and repaired.
City Water & Sewer System Joe Roberts, Superintendent (270)797-2844 FAX (270)797-2221 Directly supervises the water and sewer employees.
Responsible for scheduling maintenance on lines and equipment.
Serves as personnel officer.
Works with developers, contractors and engineers on utility
projects. Keeps Water
Commission informed of ongoing projects. Maintains water and sewer lines in city, installs new
lines, operates water and wastewater plants
